Start of the misadventure in Mussoorie
We had not booked any accommodation prior to our arrival and decided to take our chances and book something last minute. We stumbled upon a small campsite on the outskirts of Mussoorie and decided to give it a go. When we arrived, we were the only ones there, and all the other tents were empty. We were a bit apprehensive but decided to stay anyway since we were already there.
As the sun began to set, we started to explore the area around our tent. We took a stroll through the woods and enjoyed the serene beauty of the hills. As the night began to set in, we returned to our tent and decided to watch a movie on our laptop. We snuggled up under the blankets and started the movie.
During the movie, we heard a strange sound outside our tent. It sounded like someone was rustling through the leaves. We brushed it off as the sound of a small animal and went to sleep. But, a few moments later, we heard someone trying to open the zip of our tent. We were both startled and didn’t know what to do. We were scared and couldn’t think straight. At first, we thought it was just the strong wind but then we saw that the chain to the tent was near the ground and wind won’t sound like that. We didn’t know if it was an animal or a person trying to break in. We waited for a bit and heard the sound again, this time we looked for a shadow or any other sound through the tent and waited again. We contemplated whether to sleep in the tent or get out of there as soon as possible. We chose the latter option as that seemed the most sensible.

Leaving the chilly tent
Without any second thoughts, we quickly packed all our things and got out of our tent and ran towards our car. We were both in a state of shock and didn’t know what to do. We decided to drive down to the mall road, which is a street in the heart of Mussoorie. Since it was around 12am, the road was empty but we still felt safer and parked the car there. We didn’t feel safe enough to go back to our tent, so we decided to spend the night in the car. As we sat in the car, we felt relieved that we were safe, but we were also disappointed that our adventure had turned into a nightmare. We both agreed that we would never stay in a tent again and would always book proper accommodation in the future.

The temperature was -2°C and we were freezing. We switched on the heater of the car for a while but couldn’t keep it on for long since the car battery would have run out. So, we switched on the heater for a while the switched it off then switched it on when we felt cold and we did this for a while until we fell asleep. We woke up at around 6am and decided to go back to the campsite and freshen up for the day so that we could hit the road again.
We spoke to the campsite owners and told them about our experience. They apologized for the inconvenience and assured us that such incidents were rare. They also mentioned that the area around the campsite was known to have wild animals, and it was possible that it was just an animal that had come close to our tent.
Although we were relieved to hear that it may have been an animal and not a person, we were still shaken from the experience and not completely sure if it was just an animal.
